Going to Disneyland

Dan and I are leaving for Disneyland today for our anniversary. The big three! I made him Mickey Mouse pancakes this morning for breakfast. Mickey has blueberry eyes and a blueberry nose.We are so excited! Neither of us has been to Disneyland in about 10yrs. During Halloween time Disneyland decorates for the holiday and they take-over the Haunted Mansion ride and redo it with a Nightmare Before Christmas theme (which is my favorite Halloween movie).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAN

Today is Dan's birthday! The big 26! WAHOO! Words can't explain how grateful I am to have Dan as my eternal companion. I learn from his wonderful examples each day of how to be more like the person I want to be. I changed the border of our blog today to the "John Deere" motif...(Dan wants to be a farmer when we are old and grey). Dan is the best husband and friend!

Buy Me Some Peanuts and Cracker-Jacks!

We went to church-night at the A's game. After not having any moisture for who knows how long, as we were walking to will-call the sky began to sprinkle! We were so excited! We didn't even care if the game got rained-out... we just wanted it to pour. Well, that didn't happen, but it was exciting to see some drizzle! We met-up with Beau and Heather Oyler with their adorable son Luke. The game was great, considering the A's are having a horrible season, but they won! After the game we got to go down to the field and lay on the grass to watch an incredible fireworks display! We had a blast!

Kitchen...if you could call it that...

Ever since Dan and I moved in, I have wanted to take pics of our place to show our friends and family just how small it is....I kept waiting for everything to be off of the floor, but in a studio that is just under 200 sq.ft. that achievement, well, was never achieved. The picture I chose is a typical "me cooking dinner in this thing we call a kitchen" scene, with mixing bowls propped up on boxes and stacks of books. From here you can see our smaller fridge. The thing next to it is a set of two burners with a sink attached to the right. Underneath that is a tiny fridge that is not turned-on, so we store our dinnerware and flatware in it. To the left of that you can see the "improvised-island" and a counter-top oven sits a-top, since we don't have an oven. Cooking has been inventive and interesting. We have enjoyed the time we've been here (we only lasted 1 yr.), however, we are THRILLED that we are moving on Saturday to a bigger place. I can see it all now... 2 bedrooms, garage, living room, kitchen complete with regular-sized fridge, dishwasher, disposal, full-sink, and an oven! We even get a washer and dryer (which we've never had before!) We will post a couple more pics of this place as we move-out.

Happy Independence Day!

Dan and I got together with some members of the ward and had dinner and dessert to watch the fireworks. It was so much fun! I went a bit crazy with pics of fireworks...how about 72 pics of fireworks! I know it's crazy, but I love taking pictures and this year the fireworks were wonderful. I brought chocolate-dipped cheesecake for dessert. I found the recipe on a blog, but it originally came from a cookbook I saw at Williams-Sonoma called: Sticky, Chewy, Messy, Gooey- Desserts for the Serious Sweet-Tooth. You can also get the book on amazon.com for about $16! I've posted the recipe on my recipe blog...so check it out! The tags on the dessert are and idea from Martha Stewart. They were super easy and the directions are posted on her website!

Wait...they moved 10 years ago!?!

Yesterday, Dan and I drove-up to Reno (yes, that's in Nevada). Dan has been looking on Craigslist for MONTHS, for a toyota pick-up truck that met all of his requirements. He emailed and called around, only to find out that each truck he came across was either sold or he never heard back. Then, after submitting one more email, he received a call! We told the owner that we would drive-up on Thursday...so we did! It ended-up being a great find, so we bought it! Dan is on cloud-nine! We had previously talked about our mini-trip and discovered that both of our families spent quite a few vacations at Lake Tahoe when we were kids. We talked about the last time either of us had been to Lake Tahoe. Sadly, it was about 14 yrs. ago for both of us! We reminisced together about memories of Tahoe and found we shared many. We both remembered the Boatworks Shopping Mall in Tahoe City and a pizza place that shared the same parking-lot. Neither of us could remember the name, but we could remember the incredible smell of pizza that filled the parking-lot, so long ago. We decided to make it a lunch-date. After purchasing the truck we headed for Tahoe. It was a beautiful day! We arrived and the memories came flooding back! We pulled into the Boatworks parking-lot, exited the cars, BUT WAIT...where was the aroma of pizza? We hunted around the mall for someone to tell us what happened to it. We found 2 sweet women who gave us curious looks as they said, "They moved 10 years ago." We then explained that it had been a while since we had been there. There is, however, a delicious ending to our pizza-hunt...Village Pizza, as it is so named, moved to Truckee. Before we left the Boatworks, we stopped at their chocolate shop and bought some treats. The same owner was there (it is amazing that this store is the first place that I remember eating a "jawbreaker" candy and they still sell them). We found Village Pizza in Truckee and had a tasty 2:30pm lunch, visited Old Town Truckee, and drove home!
